Addis Ababa

At eight thousand feet in elevation and located in the heart of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa is one of the most fascinating cities in Africa. The capital of Ethiopia and also of the African Union, nearly 3 million people - of 80 nationalities and languages - call the metropolis home. Communities of the various ethnicities and a range of religious affiliations comprise Addis Ababa, making it an extraordinarily diverse and culturally exhilarating place to visit. Among the remarkable sights in the city are the Ethiopian National Library, the Ethiopian Ethnological Museum (and former palace,) the Addis Ababa Museum, the Ethiopian Natural History Museum, the Ethiopian Railway Museum, the National Postal Museum, and the Ethiopian National Museum, which houses the skeleton of “Lucy,” the oldest known hominid ever discovered! Sightseers also enjoy perusing the capital city’s distinctive buildings, including St. George’s Cathedral, the Holy Trinity Cathedral, the burial sites of many distinguished Ethiopian leaders, and the National Palace. Addis Ababa entertains and fascinates travelers of any creed!

Ethiopian National Museum

The Ethiopian National Museum remains a sleepy archive tucked away within the metropolis of Addis Ababa. Visitors often find themselves sharing the museums extraordinary and eclectic exhibits with only a few other people on any given day! Among the museum’s collections is “Lucy,” a 3.5 million year old skeleton believed to be the oldest of any hominid ever discovered! Ancient scripts, clothing, sculptures, tablets, implements of war, and a variety of other artifacts from all reaches of the country fascinate visitors.
